Duplicates and Training Suspended Until Further Notice

Hi all,

Exams are here and it's the worst period of my life once again.

Enjoy mugging and bridge when you're too stress with your studies.

Cheers,

Application for teamNUS Contract Bridge: Team Manager

I am interested in applying for the position as Team Manager for teamNUS Contract Bridge, as I would like to contribute to the team more in this coming academic year.

I see this as an opportunity to stretch my limits. Previous experiences as camp facilitator and game coordinator (during a camp organized for the under-privileged teenagers) helped develop my inter-personal skills such as patience and effective communication. The camp has also honed my analytical skills in response to unexpected incidents and emergencies. Apart from that, in my volunteering experiences I have worked with different types of people. Since most of these volunteering activities involved interaction with other people, mostly strangers, I have learnt to be a more empathetic person towards others’ needs and be comfortable with them. Therefore I am comfortable with working in a team.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Application for teamNUS Contract Bridge: Team Manager

My name is Li Nan, Science Year 2 Student, major in Applied mathematics. I started to learn bridge in the second semester of Year 1, I joined NUS bridge club also at the same time. Being a "hard-working" player, I played a lot in the year 2008. BBO ,Tuesday Dup pair, NUS guild house, SCBA Friday Dup pair. My skill has a big improvement through the practices. After came to Year 2, I played a lot less because my partner decided to stop playing bridge for a period of time. However my passion to bridge is always there.

I would like to compete for team manager for the following reasons:
1 I would like to push myself to play hard and think hard, and thus improve my bridge skill.
2 I would like to know more people and make more friends though being a Team manager.
3 The thing that attract me the most is that, bridge club will be hosting NUS open pair, and some other events. I am really really passionate to be involved in organizing such events.

And I believe i am capable of being one.
1 More than a thousand hours of bridge playing granted me valuable experiences. Some good experiece, some painful, but all might be helpful for teammates.
2 1 year experience in league, i am familar with the rules, regulations and procedures. (e.g arranging postponed match, change match venue etc.)
3 quite familar with most team members.
4 I have the experience being chairperson of C-Chess club in scondary school.Li Miao ,Jia wei,Xuyao,Sujie all from the same club. This experience will help me in coping the job of team manager.

Application for teamNUS Contract Bridge: Vice Captain

My name is Deric Justin Tee and I am currently a year 1 science student majoring in applied mathematics. I consider myself as an active and sporty guy and during my free time I enjoy playing sports such as basketball and tennis. I am currently involved in another CCA namely the SciCBLC, of which I hold the title of marketing executive in charge of sourcing for sponsors. I am staying off campus at my old hostel in Bishan, serving as an assistant hostel manager. As an assistant hall manager, it is my duty to ensure the safety and well-being of the boarders and to assist in any events conducted in the hostel.

The reason I would like to be the vice captain of NUS bridge club is because I feel that I have what it takes to be able to do more and contribute to the club. Although I am still quite new and inexperience to contract bridge, I am confident in my managing and organizational skills can help in the smooth running of the club and be of assistance to captain. In my opinion serving as a member of the NUS bridge committee will serve as an invaluable lesson in both further developing my leadership skills as well as a bridge player as a whole. Given the chance, I will do my best to ensure the smooth running for the club and aid the captain in whatever way I can.

Application for teamNUS Contract Bridge: Captain

I first started playing bridge about 5 years ago, when I was studying at Hwa Chong Junior College. Not knowing a thing about signalling or how to bid properly, I was just another guy in the entire squad. Later in the year, while I was still in year 1 and learning the ropes, I participated in my first ever bridge competition: the CJC Inter College Bridge Tournament. My team crashed out but my seniors went all the way to second place, losing out to powerhouse CJC. My imagination was stoked; it could be done. A new respect for my seniors took shape and I was inspired to read up on bridge literature and discuss new conventions with partner just so I could one day emulate my seniors. Countless Friday evenings were spent at SCBA where our standings improved gradually from rock bottom to mid-table to above average. There were 2 teams in my batch vying for first team status and I wanted to be a first teamer. The CJC Inter College rolled around before I knew it. We came. We competed. We conquered. Ever since, the belief and determination have been instilled in me and bridge is part of who I am.

Now is the time for me to contribute back. I will be in NUS for the next 4 years and I want to strengthen this club. It is possible to turn casual players into successful tournament players. All that is needed is to ignite the inner spark of self-belief that it is possible. The rest will be history. When there is a will, there is a way. The determination to improve and the focus to train will naturally follow. I want to be there to lead this change. I want to inspire the current and new batch of players. I want to show that it can be done.

This is why I applied for the post of captain.

Thank you
