Application for teamNUS Contract Bridge: Captain

I first started playing bridge about 5 years ago, when I was studying at Hwa Chong Junior College. Not knowing a thing about signalling or how to bid properly, I was just another guy in the entire squad. Later in the year, while I was still in year 1 and learning the ropes, I participated in my first ever bridge competition: the CJC Inter College Bridge Tournament. My team crashed out but my seniors went all the way to second place, losing out to powerhouse CJC. My imagination was stoked; it could be done. A new respect for my seniors took shape and I was inspired to read up on bridge literature and discuss new conventions with partner just so I could one day emulate my seniors. Countless Friday evenings were spent at SCBA where our standings improved gradually from rock bottom to mid-table to above average. There were 2 teams in my batch vying for first team status and I wanted to be a first teamer. The CJC Inter College rolled around before I knew it. We came. We competed. We conquered. Ever since, the belief and determination have been instilled in me and bridge is part of who I am.

Now is the time for me to contribute back. I will be in NUS for the next 4 years and I want to strengthen this club. It is possible to turn casual players into successful tournament players. All that is needed is to ignite the inner spark of self-belief that it is possible. The rest will be history. When there is a will, there is a way. The determination to improve and the focus to train will naturally follow. I want to be there to lead this change. I want to inspire the current and new batch of players. I want to show that it can be done.

This is why I applied for the post of captain.

Thank you
