Reminder
Hi all!
I am Chao Kiat, the Team Manager for NUS contract bridge team. The first week of school just ended, and I hope all of you are coping well with uni life, after your long holidays. Just a simple introduction about our CCA, Contract bridge is a card game of logic, skill and counting. Besides being able to enjoy playing contract bridge in a social setting (we have training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursday), the more competitive among you may be delighted to know that contract bridge offers many opportunities to take part in tournaments on a regular basis. We take part in the National Bridge League in which there are 3 divisions (NUS has players in all 3 divisions).
In addition to having many tournaments to take part in, teamNUS Contract Bridge is a Varsity Sports Team (due to our many achievements) and our best players are issued teamNUS jackets and CCA points.
I hope after reading this, you will be inspired to pick up this mind sport! Some of you might already know the rules of the game; some of you might only know how to play bridge and not contract bridge, while some of you might not even know what bridge is. Don't worry! Our team is starting our beginners' course next Thursday, 18th August, 7pm at MPSH 4. For those who don't know where it is, it is in the same building as the MPSH where you guys had your matric fair earlier last month.
Do grab along any friends who are interested to learn/play bridge along with you when you come! Oh, and remember to have your dinner before coming down!
Do check our blog regularly for updates (like what we will be doing and so on). I
Cheers!

Holiday updates!
Hi everyone!
Hope you've been enjoying your holidays so far. Its the time of the year once again for the biggest bridge event in the Asia Pacific! This year, teams from different countries will be flocking to KL to compete. The tournament will be from 15-24 June. So if you are at home and have nothing better to do in the day, do log in to bbo as there should be vugraph matches screened 4 times a day.
3 of our NUS players will be representing Singapore to play in this event. They are Wenle, Xiao Ming and Cheng Yen. Lets hope they can do well in this event and do NUS proud!!
Please do make use of these holidays and play more cards if you can. We do hope to recapture the NUS-NTU challenge title next academic year, and I would appreciate everyone putting in effort in achieving this goal.
Great hols ahead! :)
Regards,
lcy

Applications/nomination forleadership position for AY 2011/2012 is now open!
Hi people,
We are at the halfway mark for Sem 2 of AY2010/2011, and it's finally time for the next generation of leaders to step up the leadership roles of this team for the coming academic year.To keep this brief, there will be 3 committee posts available:
1. Captain
The person who will be steering teamNUS Contract Bridge for the next academic year and deciding on the direction the Team will take. You must be committed to the bridge team and have a genuine desire to raise the standard of bridge in NUS. Needless to say, you must be willing to make sacrifices for the sake of bridge, and the first one will probably be your time. A leader leads by example and everyone should be able to see your passion for bridge. You do not need to be the most talented player, but you definitely need to be the most committed player with a high willingness to learn and to share. Aside from commitment and passion, there will also be administrative work that you will have to (be willing to) handle.
2. Vice-Captain
This is the person who will work closely with the Captain, and assist him/her in any way. All leaders need some kind of support and while you may not be in the limelight like the Captain is, you are indispensable to the Captain and everyone knows it. The Vice-Captain is the right hand man of the Captain and will need to as committed as the Captain in the running of the Bridge Team. All tasks that the Captain is required to do will probably also fall on your shoulders to some degree.
3. Team Manager
The finances of the team will be in your care, and this is a heavy responsibility, as the amounts involved are not small. You will be accountable to the bridge team as a whole for the finances. You will be receiving and spending money on behalf of the bridge club, and any revenue or expenditure will need to be recorded and cross-checked with the Captain or Vice-Captain. The Team Manager will also be in charge of the team's welfare. This means you need to get to know everyone in the Bridge Team and aid the Captain and Vice-Captain in communicating with the team. Also, the team manager will be the one taking care and maintaining this blog.

All committee positions are not limited to Year 1s. Interested members are welcomed to apply for the role that they want, or alternatively, if you think your partner, or friend is suitable for any of the role above (but is too shy to apply himself/herself), you can nominate their names too! If you need to know more about the roles and responsibilities of the respective positions, feel free to approach any of us during training.
Please send your nominations/applications to: nuscontractbridge@gmail.com before the end of March 2011.
